Fillip 6
Los Angeles Launch & Panel Discussion
Mandrake Bar, Los Angeles

Thursday, June 28, 7pm

Projectile Publishing and Emily Carr Institute are pleased to announce the official release of Fillip 6

Fillip 6: What is to be Learned?

Fillip 6: What is to be Learned? departs from the magazine?s traditional focus on art exhibition and event reviews, instead turning to a series of essays and fictional works that address education ? one of three core leitmotifs proposed by the curators of Documenta 12. Not an official participant in Documenta, the issue operates as a ?parasitic? project that parallels Documenta?s official magazine component. Issue 6 examines the outer limits and fringe experiences of learning beyond institutionalized academic structures through various projects including DIY learning collectives, grassroots arts criticism, and the recent surge in art works and exhibitions taking the form of schools, among other subjects.

In conjunction with the launch of Afterall magazine no.15, Fillip will co-launch issue no.6 at the Mandrake Bar in Los Angeles on June 28. To kick off the event, a panel discussion including Tom Lawson, Jordan Strom, Kristina Lee Podesva, and Andrew Barardini will consider current and historical moments in art magazine publishing in two west coast cities ? Los Angeles and Vancouver.
