All She Wants
Directed by Laura Borealis
73 minutes, Digital Video
Shot in April 2001, completed in October 2001

Synopsis

Faster Pussycat by Russ Meyer meets Safe by Todd Haynes in this dramatic comedy about Toronto excess. Women clad in excess fur and leather plot to beat the competition in shopping and shagging. "Jade", played by Fiona Highet, has a crisis when she is diagnosed with candida and her lust for forbidden food and pleasure turns her into a killing machine.

Biography and Filmography of the Director
Laura Borealis (born sept 5 1967) Boston. Raised in Waterloo and Toronto.
BFA NSCAD 93, MFA Art Institute of Chicago 96

All She Wants was written, produced, directed, shot, acted, edited and scored by Laura Borealis. No stranger to multi media art, she has been an internationally exhibiting artist, performer of her original music and recording artist, a music video director for bands such as Sebadoh, the SuperFriendz, Eric's Trip, and Thrush Hermit, photographer and a writer.

In her first feature length movie, All She Wants, Laura Borealis combines her various talents to expose her view of fur-loving 4x4-driving Toronto. A star-studded cast includes accomplished actress Fiona Highet, rock stars Andrew Scott, Patrick Pentland (from Sloan), Rick and Tara White (from Elevator), Cecil Seaskull, Julie Doiron, Greg Tymoshenko (from Leather Uppers), local art darlings Jinhan Ko and Jenifer Paparro and many more. The party scene includes Bob Wiseman among others. The remainder of her cast includes a real stockbroker, a real pilates instructor, her acupuncturist, her in-laws, her brother's best friend, and a woman she met in pre-natal class.

Her previous films have been made in art contexts, either in installations, documented performances, or group art video screenings. Laura married herself on video in 1990, explored loneliness to shocking and comedic heights in her MFA exhibit. Some influences on Laura's film are Crispin Glover's What is it?, Russ Meyer, Woody Allen, Family Viewing by Atom Egoyan, Showgirls , Stanley Kubrick, Aaron Spelling, Hiroshima, Mon Amour. Laura Borealis plans on continuing to make affordable feature films on Digital Video, and editing them at home. She has more screenplays developing. She has a daughter with Greg Tymoshenko and lives in Toronto. Laura, Greg and Fiona Highet all play in a band together performing Laura's original material. Laura has renamed her band Jupiter Tapes and is independently releasing a new CD on Oct 16 2001 at the Cameron House. Many of the songs appear on the soundtrack of All She Wants.
